Figurine of Chinese Tomb Guardian
This pottery figure is shown wearing armour and stands on what seems to be an ox. The figure originally held a sword or spear. Tomb guardians were placed with the dead to protect them from evil in the afterlife. This example dates from the Tang dynasty (AD 618 - 907). It is part of a collection of Chinese ceramics created by F E Colthurst and given to the Somerset Archaeological and Natural History Society.
