Club
Makira tapering paddle club with split bamboo handle binding. Nggela Islands (formerly Florida Islands) tapering paddle clubs show close similarities to the geographically separate pakipaki clubs of Tonga. They are carved with a thin logitudinal ridge down the upper part of the blade but are otherwise plain. The clubs were traded widely and some have been collected elsewhere. Likely acquired by John Gould Veitch on the HMS Curacoa in 1865.
