Mask
Masks are commonly found throughout the Americas to enact mythologies, stories of origin and identity (some dances are clearly Spanish in origin but many others are Mayan). However, they also make connections with the spirit world to explain the natural world. It is believed that mask wearing during festivals can aid fertility even protect communities from evil; to drive or scare away those forces that are harmful to the human world. The battle between good and evil is something that is prevalent in all societies.
