Porringer
One of five metal vessels found in he low tide area near Churston. These vessels were probably lost from a 16th century Dutch, French or Spanish ship which could have been wrecked in the area.
This pewter porringer has markings on it which could help identify the maker, owner and ship. There is an obscure small touch (possibly a crowned rose) is struck on the upper face of one ear and scratched initials ‘VH’ on the other. An inscription of 6 characters is deeply but inexpertly engraved under the base.
