Infant’s corded stays
These stays were worn by the donor Miss Aviolet and made by her mother. When swaddling babies became outmoded it was still felt that the body needed some support so binders were introduced. These were strips of fabric that were wrapped around the torso when the baby was very small. As they got a bit older they started to wear stays.
