Skirt

This is a particularly fine example of a piupiu, worn by both men and women. Piupiu translates as waving about or oscillating; and the skirts create a swishing sound, especially obvious with large groups of dancers. Performers are not allowed to eat, drink or go to the toilet while wearing a piupiu in order to preserve its tapu state.
