Honiton (East Devon) lace sprig
Lace designed by Louisa Tucker, daughter of John Tucker of Branscombe whose family firm supplied lace to the royal family. Louisa’s designs were based on native and garden plants. This lace sprig is skillfully worked in wholestitch and halfstitch with ribbed and rolled work to give a three-dimensional effect. Leadworks are used to decorate the central veins of the leaves. This is one of a series of naturalistic sprigs (lace motifs) said to have been designed and made by Louisa Tucker.
