Medicine pouch repurposed as bag
Beaded medicine pouch acquired by Hon. Edgar Dewdney, between 1859 - 1916. Dewdney became Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. The buckskin pouch is decorated with glass beads and buckskin danglers. Provenance unknown.
The pouch’s beading incorporates a horses’ hoof design points to a way of life that no longer existed when this was made. Handle likely added later when purchased by a white immigrant.
Donated to RAMM in 1920 by his wife Blanche Elizabeth.
