Magic Lantern Slide: Beverley Misericord - Canting Heraldry
This photographic slide by William Weaver Baker shows a misericord decorated with the coat of arms of William Wight, Chancellor of Beverley Minster. The arms show three weights and the supports both show men carrying heavy weights, depicting a play on William Wight’s name. The misericords at Beverley Minster are believed to have been carved by the Ripon School of Carvers in 1520.
