Honiton (East Devon) lace edging

An early example of East Devon (Honiton) made bobbin lace, this is a very finely worked linen edging. A deeply scalloped design forms the lower edge, with a variety of stylised flowers, leaves and random shapes. These are worked in wholestitch and halfstitch with snowflake fillings used within the motif and to join sections together. A very fine count of thread has been used, similar to that used in Continental laces at the time.
