Magic Lantern Slide: Aeschna cyanea female in sun

Alfred Rowden was a keen amateur photographer and natural historian in Exeter. He often gave talks at local field clubs, illustrated with magic lantern slides that he created or purchased from commercial manufacturers. He recorded scenery and wildlife specimens around Devon. This slide is one of two showing this dragonfly specimen under different lighting conditions (see 45/1960/95/351), with the ‘sun’ in this image replicated using a handheld torch or similar.
