Magic Lantern Slide: Group of veiled women riding in boat
This slide by Alfred Oliver Rowden shows a group of veiled women riding in a boat. There are three men visible on the left hand side and the one at the front with a paddle. The type of circular boat is a traditional Guffa, made to carry the greatest amount of cargo or passengers for its size. The slide is part of a set of photographs he took while in Mesopotamia, where he served during the First World War and remained until 1919 or 1920.
