Magic Lantern Slide: Street scene with mosque

This photograph by Alfred Oliver Rowden shows a mosque with a street scene in front. It is likely to be the Haydar Khana Mosque in Baghdad which Rowden had taken another picture of from a different angle (see slide 45/1960/95/843). This mosque was built in the Ottoman period. The image was taken by Rowden in Mesopotamia, where he served during the First World War until he was sent home in 1919 or 1920. He photographed daily scenes like this to record his experiences.
