Magic Lantern Slide: Kelek (Mosul Raft)
This photograph by Alfred Oliver Rowden shows a local type of raft called a ‘kelek’, and the title of the slide suggests it is near the city of Mosul, Iraq. Rowden was in Mesopotamia during the First World War and was not sent home until 1919 or 1920. He photographed daily scenes like this to record his experiences.
