Magic Lantern Slide: Group of men standing in gateway
This photograph by Alfred Oliver Rowden shows a group of men standing in a large ornate gateway, possibly the entrance to a town. Another slide shows the view when standing in the gateway entrance (see slide 45/1960/95/969). Rowden was in Mesopotamia during the First World War and was not sent home until 1919 or 1920. He photographed daily scenes like this to record his experiences.
