Oil lamp

This lamp was described by its collector as ‘By Fors. Red with dark glaze: length 3.5 in. (differs from the usual Mutina pattern in having a handle, and is of form 93.) On bottom, FORTIS. Found in Holborn (valley), 1866. (G.F. Lawrence, 5/6, 1927)’. It belonged to Lieutenant Colonel Montague who collected over 800 classical archaeological objects, which he bequeathed to the museum on his death.
