Krater

A ‘krater’ was an important part of social life in ancient Greece, used for mixing water and wine at symposia. This is decorated on one side with three male figures, two holding spears and one extending his arm. On the other side are three satyrs. the painted decoraton is thought to have been added later.
It belonged to Lieutenant Colonel Montague who collected over 800 classical archaeological objects, which he bequeathed to the museum on his death.
