Rock: volcanic bomb

Volcanic bombs are formed when larva cools in mid air before solidifying and hitting the ground. They can land many kilometres from the volcano they were ejected from. New Zealand’s many volcanoes form part of the ‘Pacific ring of fire’ - a band of high volcanic activity where earthquakes are common that extends around the shores of the Pacific Ocean.
