Fox Stealing Goose tile
This tile depicts a rarely used design by William De Morgan called Fox Stealing Goose. It is number 1066 in the V&A design catalogue. The back of the tile is just as unusual as the front. Fewer than 5% of De Morgan tiles were made on these blanks. Wedgwood, T&R Boote used very similar ones. In ‘Fox Stealing Goose’ De Morgan has arranged the body of the body of the goose and the tail of the fox to flow together in a circular pattern. This creates a sense of movement which is added to by the flailing legs of the goose.
