Fan

Using hala or pandanus leaves (Pandanus tectorius), this lauhala fan was made for sale to tourists. However, souvenirs like this example highlight the use of traditional materials which continue being hand woven by women. Fan styles and materials vary across the Pacific and remain popular items with the locals. Lauhala simply refers to the leaves of the hala tree.
