Mrs Bowditch of Taunton

Rachel Bowditch née Pile was born in Cheddon Fitzpaine, Somerset and married Samuel Bowditch of Taunton in 1779. She and her son James ran a pawnbrokers and drapery in the town centre. Their stock ranged from satins, French cambric, bombazine and serge flannel, to sarcanet and gingham dresses cotton hose, Honiton and Tiverton Lace, India Nankeens, Stout Corduroys, Fustians, Moleskins, Nankeens and Jeans.
