Bathing dress jacket for a doll

Although probably home-made to fit a small doll, this little outfit mirrors the styling and materials of a full adult or child’s bathing dress. Woollen fabrics such as serge and flannel were preferred, and the costume would be made in two pieces with a long tunic and three-quarter length drawers for warmth and modesty. Strong colours such as red and navy blue were favoured and these were often used in combination with a contrast of white. Not surprisingly motifs with a nautical flavour were often used to decorate bathing dress.
