Spindle whorl

Spindle whorls were part of a tool for spinning wool into thread and are found on archaeological sites from prehistory until the recent past. This Iron Age spindle whorl is made from stone. Two labels are attached to the object, one recording the museum accession number. The other label records where and when it was found: ‘Spindle whorl, Bickwell Farm, Sidmouth, May 26 1873’.
