“It would be interesting to learn more about Teschemaker and find out how and where he came upon this [item]. I suspect it might have been part of the Lono ceremonies (Makahiki) as shown in Webber’s drawing (attached). If so, then this might be an akua pa`ani, or deity of “sport” (rough translation), one of 3 images in the Makahiki procession.”
