Barkcloth
There are few surviving examples of this decorated cloth in the UK (e.g. Kew, British Museum and RAMM).
This rare example was made using the inner fibres of the paper mulberry tree. The cloth itself conveys a distinctive motif of three multi-legged creatures.
Donated to RAMM in 1868 by the widow of the Reverend James Vaughan of Torquay. Length = 5300mm.
