Bell

Likely to have been made from locally smelted iron. This is the bell of ‘Obatala’, the divine sculptor, who is the creator of the first man and woman.

Note in Ethnography register: “Iron bell used in heathen worship” and “Aja it belongs to Obatala”

It was obtained by Rev. Henry Townsend, likely in Abeokuta, before 1868.
