Tankard
The tankard is decorated in the ‘Mandarin’ style which encompasses both the palette and the subject matter. The palette is of underglaze blue and boldly coloured enamels over the glaze. There is a central scene depicted within a scroll of a Chinese official (Mandarin), a lady, attendants, and a child. This piece is made for export. The Chinese did paint the whole ‘canvas’, instead, they used to break the painting up with decoration in the fill. In this case the artist has used the Y-work diaper pattern
